Nicole Landau

Nicole Landau is a contemporary photographer who manipulates and layers original photographs to create intricate, abstract works that at the same time reference the world around us. She uses the urban landscape as inspiration for her atmospheric work, exploring the back alleys and vacant lots of Los Angeles in the early morning hours to photograph neglected and overlooked architectural details, which she then transforms into powerfully expressive imagery. The contemplative environments that Landau creates honor and celebrate the patina of history. By calling attention to these gritty, well-worn elements, she reshapes our modern world into a balanced calm with its own order, structure, and rhythm. She often composes images based on timeless geometric principles found in art, religion, and architecture with a sophisticated palette and meticulous craftsmanship. Pieces range in scale from intimate studies to commanding murals and can be commissioned to adapt to any location. Nicole was born and raised in Los Angeles, and currently lives and works there after getting a degree in architecture from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her artwork has been shown internationally and hangs in private and corporate collections from Beverly Hills to New York and from Istanbul to Shanghai.
